Frequently Asked QuestionsCan I suggest another charity to benefit from this scheme?Sure, we welcome suggestions. If there's sufficient interest in a
particular charity then we'll add them to the list. Back to TopCan I alter the web page examples you've given?Certainly! The web code examples are just that, examples. It's very likely that you'll at least want to change the colors used if not the formatting / fonts etc to match the design of your web site. Just copy one of the examples you see on our page and copy it to your web page editor (FrontPage, HomeSite, Dreamweaver etc) then change to suit your needs. Make sure you leave the parts that relate to the affiliate's link unchanged and it'll be OK. How can I retain the attention of the people I refer to you?Unlike other affiliate programs we have no interest in 'stealing' someone's attention from your site, once they've joined WOW we're happy for you to have them back. If you use a sign up form on your web site we do not take that user away from your site. Once they have entered their email address, a small confirmation window appears. However the page on your web site is still displayed on their computer so they are encouraged to continue looking around your site. The confirmation window will automatically disappear from the users screen if they don't close it themselves. Will you sell or rent my name or that of your subscribers?Absolutely not. Woody's Watch has always had a policy of not disclosing the names or email addresses of any of it's subscribers. We do not sell, rent or give-away our list of subscribers. That policy now extends to the affiliate system; we keep confidential both the names and details of anyone participating in the scheme plus that of anyone who subscribes through the scheme. Back to TopWhat happens if I get the charity code wrong? If you don't put a charity code (ie the src=??? part of the link) in your links or the code isn't one of the valid codes then we'll assume it's an ALL request. That is, it'll be added to the count for All Charities, which is distributed equally among all the listed charities. Back to TopWhat happens if the email address given is incorrect? There are two types of incorrect email address, one we can check for and the other we can't.
Back to TopIs there any way to shorten the link that is displayed? If you choose the 'All Charities' option then you can drop the 'src=??' part
of the hyperlink in either web page or email links. So the link would look
like this Back to TopWhat cookies are used?Neither our woodyswatch.com web site, nor the affiliates system uses cookies of any sort. Back to TopWhat ezines can I get people to subscribe to?Currently Woody's OFFICE Watch - WOW is the only one of our publications that is part of the affiliate program. That is because WOW is easily the most popular of our ezines and therefore the one that's most likely to generate income for the charities. Back to TopIs there any way to find out how many subscribers I've sent to you? There's no way in the current system to account for the number of subscribers from each web site (or rather, we could have done it but it would have made the system much more complex for affiliates). However that's certainly something we'll address in the future. Back to TopWhen will you make the payments to the charities? The payments will be made quarterly starting with the January-March 2001 period. The payments will be made before the 15th of the following month (ie first payment before 15 April 2001). When receipts are received for each contribution, copies will be posted on the affiliates web site for everyone to see. Back to TopHow will I know that the donation has been made?As we receive official receipts from the charities we'll put copies on this web site for all to see. To kick things off we've made an advance donation of $250 to each of the charities to cover the first subscriptions received -- when those receipts arrive we'll show them on this web site. Back to TopWhat about the Tibetan Children's Fund? The Tibetan Childrens Fund is a registered charity that has been supported by Woody Leonhard for many years. There's been mentions of the TCF in Woody's Watch ezines and all of Woody's books. For various reasons we're unable to support the TCF at this time, however we're hopeful that once circumstances return to normal that the TCF will join the charity list. Back to TopIs there a way for you to pay me instead of a charity? That's also something we are considering. It's a complex matter for an ezine to do especially one read around the world - not just in North America. There's technical and also taxation issues to be dealt with. That's one reason why we've gone for the benefit to charity option -- it's simpler to administer both technically and legally -- and it's in keeping with WOW's policy of supporting good causes. Back to TopDon't you get a tax break on the donations made?Probably, we're not sure if the amounts we pay will get any tax benefit or how much (we won't know for sure until our tax returns get approved). However we've taken that into account when deciding to match the amount paid dollar-for-dollar. So any tax benefit we may get is more than balanced by the double payment we make. Back to TopHow can I stop my participation in the program? To stop all you have to do is stop using the affiliate links, remove them from your web site and anywhere else you have put them. Otherwise there's no formality involved. Back to TopWhen will you be stopping this affiliate scheme? While we reserve the right to stop or amend the scheme at any time, it's our intention to operate this charity benefiting scheme for the foreseeable future. If there's changes to the scheme we'll advise all registered affiliates. Back to Top |
